Is it worth the hassle or better off buying?
Have a look on Auto Trader UK old caravans cheap as chips use a UK post code IE example FK10 4NR, last time I enquired was about $ 1500.00 to get it here and its treated as a trailer for certification/compliance.

Cars are a bit more hassle just a thought>

Cheap as chips coz they cant go back on the road after 10yrs of age in the UK. Once upon a time they got scrapped and then some bright spark started importing the shit heaps over here. Early ones are very weak construction and generally have rotted out window frames. If you buy one then add extra shit like water tanks etc the suspension then shits itself from the extra weight that it was never designed to carry. I've heard some real horror stories from companies trying to fix them.

Struth just checked you don't need a WOF that's an MOT in UK or Road Tax that's rego in uk !!!!! (still has to be safe with legal tyres, wheel bearings and such like though unless you were stopped for an inspection or involved in an accident that the police investigate who would know !!!!!!!!!)

I thought that was the case cant find anything about being scrapped or over ten years old.

Yip could be some shit about, best as ever don't buy shit.

Ask your parents about the legal life of a caravan in the UK and getting an MOT if past a certain age.
I've been involved in the light trailer industry for over 16yrs, so my sources are far and wide.

Can your sources provide a link to the UK legislation I am interested also legislation can change regarding the scrapping of ten year old and over caravans in UK

Do you have an interest in caravan importation and sales in NZ

As far as I am aware insurance does not impact on the condition or safety of a caravan in UK though if it was found to be un roadworthy after a an accident Im sure your insurance co would drop you like shit off a shovel.

As far as I can recall you can put the road risk onto your towing car insurance so when on the road your car insurance covers the caravan or trailer road risk.

Do you need separate insurance to tow a trailer in NZ?

I am happy to be educated.
