    Trench Gun Project

    Heys all.

I've been looking for a WW2 trench gun for a bit now, and have come to the conclusion that it's just not going to happen.

So I had the idea of taking a similar, more widely available shotgun, and doing a "conversions" so to speak.

My questions are, what shotgun should I use for the base and where can I get parts for the heat shield etc.

Any recommendations and direction pointing most
    welcome.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

may as well get a ranger 870 to cheaply practice on and then figure out the niggles so when a nicer shotty pops up it'll be a nicer conversion

Norinco made a copy of the trenchgun, and it was imported here for a while

Been told that the Remington Model 10a would be a good start point

Just about every US made pump action shotgun has been officially used as a combat shotgun by the US Armed Forces between WW1 and Vietnam. These included the Winchester M97, M12, M1200, Remington M10, M870, Ithaca M37, Savage, Mossberg, etc. The best of these was the Ithaca M37 due to its enclosed action. The popular model is the Winchester M97 but it is nowhere as nice to use as the M37. Winchester M12 saw a lot of use in the Pacific in WW2 but they are fairly expensive and hard to find for a Trench Gun project. I would suggest a Norinco M37 copy as a good starting point as they are quite well made and faithful to the original design at a modest price. Mossbergs and Reminton 870's are still current US issue.

I found this photo highly amusing. Under Mossberg’s Military / Law Enforcement section, you will find the subsection Redneck Vigilantes.

I’d love one of these, the 590A1, with bayonet. Get orrff my land.
