yes its possible to put a pir in a small enclosure. most alarms systems will domestic dial (connect to a phone not a monitoring service)
there are lots of cheap alarm systems out there, there are allot of monkeys who put them in too!! there is nothing worse than an alarm that false alarms or even worse doesnt go off when an intruder is on the premises.
depending on what area on nz you are i may be able to tell you companies to avoid.
