Josh
He's a bit of a dag - but he is out there doing it - hunting - fishing - trapping etc
Hunts in bare feet too - another Dundee or Barry Crump type
Does some good vids but
I heard Josh used to use Drones - maybe this was the last straw.
Still I believe what he says but it is prob not the 1st time the local plod has to deal with Josh over walk about issues
I'm a farmer and I shoot more poachers than deer! Actually not really, but it was fun saying it.
I have had drones flying around the house without permission, 800m away from the nearest public access. Drones are going to become a very contentious issue in future unless people start obeying the laws. I've heard rumours of gang members using them to try to find marijuana before the cops do their fly over... no doubt taking note of anything else of interest while they do so. If a lot of drones start flying over private property things will turn nasty pretty quickly.
Yes it is illegal to shoot down drones, and no legal defence exists. Like if my wife or daughters were sunbathing on the farm and a drone with a camera was sitting just out of arm reach, I could do nothing about it. Technically the drone operator is committing a crime, but no way of proving it. If anyone thinks drones will not be "mistaken" for legitimate targets they are dreaming.
My 'radar' is pinging, the radar that says 'more to this than one man's version'. There's always another version.
It's the same radar as the one that pinged (pung?) when I watched the vid of the bald headed fella istting in his car, going off about the Bruce Rifle Range, just after the ChCh shooting. You know the fella I mean.
Always a good idea to wait before you judge, with stuff like this. Which doesn't happen very often on facebook, does it?
Drones can be jammed
I would not hesitate to shoot down a drone we’re it to still be flying over my property once I had gotten a shotgun and shells out of their respective secure storage. It is illegal for a drone operator to fly a drone over private land without the land owners permission and it is perfectly legal for me to use a shotgun on this rural property to control pests as I know the land owner personally and I have his permission.
I think it might be wilful damage if you shoot one down. Of course if the owner comes looking for it and there are no bits of it around, it would be a bit hard to say where that pesky thing went :)
I thought same as you "once"
I now use daily for selling - but I also find fantastic reading/pics/history etc etc
All about things/periods/timeframes that fit what I have been/done etc
For example the 60's - 70's meat recovery Group - just amazing Photos obviously put on by Grandkids etc that have scanned the "old fella's" Box Brownie jobs etc
So do not knock what you not tried - dip your toes in the water - you might find it comforting
Farmer allegedly fired shots at a couple of blokes on DOC estate bordering his property, The police have also allegedly told the two blokes that as there were no witnesses they cannot do anything further,
No mention of drones anywhere.....and I would have thought if they had used a drone they might of got some useful footage of the incident....
You might at a pinch use a firearm to defend your life, and I think the law would back you up. For defending your privacy I'd maybe just stick to throwing rocks.
Here is a useful idea for when the zombies, sorry drones come:

With regard to drones, you dont have to shoot them down. It is a waste of ammo. If you can get ANYTHING tangled with a blade it will fall rather nicely. An old school stone thrower made from a rubber glove and a piece of water pipe will work and no pesky firearm charges.....Sling shots (Less accurate) rubber band guns work a treat if you can get in range as to string attached to weights. A 10ft string with a fishing sinker on it and a 10 ft handle will get you to about 26ft with good accuracy.....Sometimes even a "super soaker" high pressure water pistol toy....(if you want to be really unpleasant, fill it with piss....)

A lot of the newer ones have remote cameras that record so any sight of a firearm in the picture could be recorded, but any of the methods above wont count as frearm charges. Willful damage ...? Maybe, but trespassing and invasion of privacy could be argued against retrieval....and the bastards (Drones) are not cheap either....
The Russians make and sell a drone jammer, only problem is it does look like an MSSA.
Iran jammed and landed a very high tech US spy drone much to the chagrin of the yanks. The official story was that one had crashed. So there is hope yet for someone to make a multi channel / tunable jammer . I had a drone buzz round me while fencing, then it buzzed the Mrs and son, then round the shed - I was not very happy by this stage ...
US cops have drone killers:

Half of my family are electrical engineers. Shouldn't be too hard to make something similar that works.
Back on topic, I know two farmers one of which borders doc land the other a forestry block both are a bit "eccentric" and paranoid about poachers due no doubt to regular intrusions. They boast about how if they see people in those blocks they will let off a few shots to scare any game away. Without proof the shots were aimed in their direction this should have gone no further but I suspect it was an advertising opportunity for Josh whos populaeity might have been dropping.
Im thinking that westcoast farmer was one of those old school Klan members who happened upon 2 Taliban (josh wearing a beanie could be mistaken for a turban).... causing trubbel on the back of his property after firing off all his bullets drove off to holla up some help .
I know of a similar case where people were shot at and had bullets impacting near and around them. The Police were involved, not sure of the outcome. Any such incidents should be treated with the highest level of seriousness.
Whatever happened with the locals firing warning shots at boats fishing to close to “their” beach out taharoa ways a while ago??probably sweet f a..
Was in the news last year I think.
This was the one, surfers and fisherman fired at.last year.
Wasn't an isolated incident either
I'm fairly careful on DOC land knowing that a bald farmer on the boundary is watching me with his trail cams if I cross his fence. Not a bad shot either.:D
I dont think it matters if the shots were "to scare game away"
If someone shoots in your direction, in plain sight, they are guilty of at the very least, careless use, if not attempted murder.
Of course, proving it is a different matter.
And I dont believe that Josh would stoop so low , just for publicity
Who the fuck is Josh and why is he popular?
Don’t think it was a publicity stunt, he rung me as soon as he got out from this trip to tell me what had happened, pretty serious shit, I think if his boy had of been with him it would be a different outcome
I prob see Josh less than 1 a month and havnt hunted with him for a couple of years so have no reason to be biased towards him
