Having to always record onto the FSA database both the dropping off and then the collecting of the firearm from dealer/gunsmith seems unnecessary, at least if it is within the 30 days? Especially if its a non-restricted type. I can loan a rifle to a friend for 29 days with no paperwork; but can't leave it with someone arguably more invested in security for the same period?

I have been told the new Act will have a 7 day grace period, which is tight enough.
or do it for 31 days and get and get 2 transfers in there to really confuse their whole system.

Rushed legislation is rarely high quality legislation.

It seems that fsa and/or police is trying by every means possible to ramp up and force the number of people who have not register yet to do so.
It was the same thing a while back when they were saying that filling up an S43 form was an activating circumstance when actually it was not if you were buying a non essential part (from memory). They back pedalled after a lot of complaints about it.

Especially when the people in the rush know so little about the subject matter and disregard experts as biased because they point out the idiocy of their ideas...

Legislation put in place by ideologues is always bad. Not necessarily a matter of how long they take to implement it.

If its registered to you should be able to indefinably leave it with a "dealer" "gunsmith" etc.

As a licensed firearm owner / dealer we already have a legal requirement to report stolen firearms.
And the dealer / gunsmith has even more on the line for not reporting stolen firearms.

Police come knocking. "where is SN: XYZ123?"
Oh its at LOCAL GUNSMITH. One phone call later can be verified.

Im sure most dealers and gunsmiths have some system of tracking their jobs and firearms in and out too.

No in out, no extra time and cost. etc etc.

Yes. And I guess that is why most legislation is greatly disliked by someone, 'cos none of our legislation is non-partisan. It's all tainted to a greater or lesser extent by the ideology of the ruling parties. In this case to a greater extent.
Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

What you suggest actually makes a lot of sense...Shame someone with your level of common sense was not involved to start with. The argument that they need to know where they are.." does not wash either with the 30 day loan in place. What would it matter if it was 60 days at the gunsmith....The more I think about your suggestion, the more it makes sense....

It is what it is but registration shouldn't count it being at a gunsmith. It isn't theirs, they are just working on it or it's in a queue. Typical legislation where the goal was complete compliance so there should be no loopholes. Because they realistically don't want us to have them why make it easier even if it makes it more complicated.
I have seen something from Nicole about this. The reporting has changed but agrees it's a bit dumb too and wants it changed with her input

If you personally collect your rifle within 30 days its not an activation even.
