If you can't clock the driver, then yeah. boiler room.
Sidearm unlikely to take out a block, so top or bottom, but a rifle will fuck it.

Sorry to hear of your loss, unfortunately after the beers wear off, your firearms are still gone. Hopefully you were well paid and can make up for your loss with twice as many.

    Getting back on topic...

Got to love this statement, although they left a few words off.

"It is a reminder to our staff, and to members of the public, that any event police attend can quickly escalate."
The missing words at the end are.

"It is a reminder to our staff, and to members of the public, that any event police attend can quickly escalate by police when armed with weapons solely to injure and kill people."

Radiator and front end is a bigger (harder to miss) target lots of hoses and electrical to disable too so that would potentially be a better target. But as mentioned, how close is the truth to what was reported????

I would not be SOP to shoot at a car with a handgun. Maybe he watches too many cop shows? If so, he could do with identifying less with his work role.

I've had a tyre shot-out by Pro's, (not this country) at 130kph, I still managed to travel 5k more b4 dealing with it. Back-tyre, they missed the front-first-shot, o/wise I doubt we would have survived. When I heard the Ist-shot, I thought ..Fek,that sounds close.

Probably not the best continent to piss someone off in. There isnt much respect for life in some of those countries.

Exactly who were these "Pro's" considering they missed what they were aiming at?

Considering you think it's a step too far then enlighten us on the details, and at what stage would it not be a step too far?

What facts do we think we know? He was drunk, threatened cops with a knife and spade, driving recklessly and failing to stop putting other road users at risk, rammed multiple Police cars. What do you think should've been done? And you've got a lot more time and information than the officers had to make the decision.
Id be keen to know exactly what the guy was doing when the shots were fired at his car.

Unless he was about to injure someone, and the shots were an attempt at preventing that from happening...

Somehow I doubt that is the case. And if it were the case, I am dam surprised another courier driver is not lying in the morgue.

I'd suggest that that single shot was fairly ineffective in bringing the event to a conclusion, and my understanding is that overseas experience is that shooting at tyres is a potentially high-risk and low-chance-of-success option given that the surfaces around the tyre are hard with a high chance of ricochet or deflection to somewhere where there is a high chance of disabling a vital system of the vehicle such as the brakes. Also, the tyre is a fairly small, fast moving target with a shot taken at a time of high pressure with weapons designed with general-use (coarse) sighting systems.

Not questioning the action, but the choice of target is interesting and it would be educational to see the post-event analysis and debrief (unlikely that we will get that chance though).
@Mauser308 you assume the shot was aimed at the tire.... Probably aimed at the courier driver in the background.
