I agree VC. Like point the gun straight at this video camera so I can watch it later to see if the fit is right.

Maybe not wise to do it in a busy gun shop but I have done it 100's of times at comps or in practice at the gun club. No one will even bat an eye lid
Unless its loaded and bang you'll have no fcuking eye lids

If you don't get a shudder in your bones, you need to reconsider owning firearms, I was small bore shooting on thurs and a new guy was showing his rifle to someone bolt out and waving it around horizontally , he was told, I just get a nasty feeling in me when that type of thing happens, for shit sake keep control of where the muzzle it pointing at all times. Toby never own a pistol unless you follow this rule, cause you'll shoot not only others but yourself!

The guns unloaded, both people know it you have been asked to do it. Its alot different to just randomly pointing guns at people.

Or practice mounting in front of the mirror, done that countless times[/QUOTE]
I'll see if the Mrs is keen, sounds good

Seriously though, cheers for your answers - that helped to clear that matter up a bit

While many profess to know how to fit a gun to someone in reality there a very few who actually know what they are doing

    Ken

I dont know of anyone in NZ that can fit a gun for a sporting shooter properly.

I must admit to the unease with the request to do this the first time I went to use a shotgun. But Bob da Browning II knew a lot more about it than me so after some reassurance, an explanation, and both having checked the unloaded state the fit was checked.

Maybe? Mud-pie, trench and skeet shooters hate it coz it is to hard and protests for a 3mm target variation are not allowed.

I find the hardest thing about shooting Skeet and Trap is getting in the right frame of mind and headspace .
I find it really hard to make myself Grumpy , visibly unhappy with my day , continuously moaning about my score and a general pain in the arse to everyone around me .
As I get older I think these things will come more naturally to me , but until then it is a battle .

I will never forget shooting a round of skeet with a bloke that got pretty grumpy when he missed, he would throw his empties pretty hard into the bin. He was warned about it. One day he had one bounce out and hit the ref right between the eyes and knocking his $800 High Defs off, face down on to the concrete.

Ohh I don't think even I could be that grumpy, I have only ever shot sporting at our little gathering/club and we have our own "rules" which vary depending on the day / who's in attendance. We have 7 traps with wireless remote located in a hill side / gully.
We also have "special rules for the "Point Score" Rounds.
I seem to be able to shoot with better results at Simultaneous pairs and Report pairs than the long crossing shots. No time to think = hit, anything else = miss

If I can find a "someone my next gun will be fitted by someone other than the "Salesman".
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

Only Aussies can shoot those long crossers consistently mikee. Long and slow suits their demeaner
My only advice is to get in front and well under them and extend your control arm along the forend to slow down your swing a tad.

Still waiting for you to come up and give me a demonstration, we have made some changes and now all the traps are controlled by a single remote. Thinking of buying a 12g as been using a 20 till now but the cost of ammo is becoming an issue BUT until I have a better idea of fit am somewhat nervous of outlaying more $$
