Thread: remington 700 receiver old quality control issue

    Well norinco barrels are probably the worst of the lot barrel wise although some manage to make them shoot straight with sometime a bit of tuning. For Remington , it goes from very good to quite bad. I d say 1 barrel out of twenty got a good bit of wobble on the outside contour and 1 in 30 can really be bad. This week I worked on two Remington with outside barrel contour quite bad and barrel not straight and one with out side barrel contour oval!. Mind you there was a Winchester 70 from the mid 80's with an oval barrel as well.
    Tikka s and sako are probably some of the straightest barrel you can find with browning.but sometime a pein to machine nicely. Savage are kind of in between with a nice steel/ s/s barrel to machine.

    For Remington , generally the upper value models are better made and finished.

    I hope that was not my Model 7!! And if so don't say on here
