    Test case here, not me.
So how the hell do you enter in the markings on an Iraqi Mauser? Not sure if Farsi or Arabic?
Calling 0800 won't help unless both people understand the script and how will it be entered in the database?
Translating into English won't work, as that is entering in incorrect information. Hello $20,000 fine or 2 years.
They touched on this in the gun city interview with the FSA and looks like you will be required to stamp another number to mark it with.

You add your own dreamt up serial number. I have a cannon with no serial so it will be my initials and a 1800s year.

I see there's now an inane radio ad trying to herd the masses into registering -now-.

Might be a common serial number, or prefix.

The FSA protocol for renumbering can be sumarised to two of your initials so 2 alphas, then the year so 2 digits, then 4 or so digits from your FAL, then if you have more than 1 to do, dash 1 etc.

I have a couple of barrels that need serial numbers for import into South Africa for the world champs.

I am going with B-YY-1 & B-TTT-YY-2 where B is a single letter for the Brand TTT is the twist rate (11.5 = 115) YY is the year of chambering then the barrel number.

I've borrowed a hand engraving tool for the purpose.

so - if you number an un-numbered firearm before you enter it into the register , the FSA has jurisdiction over what that number shall be ?

Cant see how an already numbered firearm can suddenly be subject to their numbering ideas.....

Not sure I'm keen to start randomly smacking heat treated steel items of pretty exacting tolerances with bits of metal and hammers - after all I'm not qualified and it's a certified gunsmith job for safety reasons I would have thought - their requirement and their cost obviously.

It's a shame I don't still have access to a CNC mill, I could of foreseen a lot of homers getting done at night.

There are a bunch of Lazer engravers out there.
Work matrix has one as us doing stainless steel ones for work.
I'd imagine they could do it easy peasy if set up for it.
Cost would be the big thing

Pretty cheap to by a set of number and letter punches, then you have them for keeps and looks like an original manufacturers serial number

Yep, but going back to my post a few up - should we really be randomly smacking bits of precision heat treated steel with bits of metal and hammers seeing as that's really a professional job? Their cost obviously so we know the job's done right.
