the system theyre apparently using is SAP which Im familiar with having used it for 20+yrs whilst working .It was prone periodically to spitting the dummy latterly very flattered by hackers and at that time in that location underwent a phase where "patches"almost became a daily occurrence.given the info i was supplied when speaking with police during the hand in Iwont be holding my breath.
To create a "myfirarms" profile I need a cell phone to receive the code they send. No cell coverage where I live so off to town, then I have to come home and print the pdf. Then back to town to the police stn to have my account activated. Lot of milage there. Can only guess someone in Auk or Wellie thought this up. Also hope the person at police stn can do it and not say come back latter!!!
Good luck everyone.
Yahoo, my mate took his firearm out of my safe this week, one more I do not have to muck about with:cool:
Well she’s up and running fellahs. I just heard on the news that twenty six firearms license holders have registered their firearms so far. If there are 240;000 of us there is now only 239,974 of us to go. My missus saw the article and asked me “are you going to do that”? I answered “yep but I am in no rush”. Woo hoo fucking hoo roll on October/November when I will have a actionable event
Well i would like to buy a 308 but not sure I want to be #27 on the list so might wait for a bit [emoji41]

the bit on the news had the fella looking at firearms himself and entering details...pretty sure he was one of the 4-5 shown in the video earlier...
Bro in law txt me to say it was being an ass to do and did I know how to do it.
I replied that he has a couple of years sort of so dont have to stress.
I can see a few people getting in the poo, a private sale and 1 party suggests not to register the trade to avoid a "trigger incident" then the other one gets cold feet & registers it. Party #1 has then then failed to register within 30 days.
Yea Im not so sure bro. Personally I would see the suggestion not to register the trade as a red flag, I have fully accepted that if I purchase a rifle from now on that it will be a "triggering incident" and I will have to register all of them. Not saying I agree with it it but I have accepted it !!
To suggest to not do so would go against the law and would bring your 'fit and proper' status into question if discovered.
As stated above I will just be patient, wait a bit until more than 26 people have done so !!
Remember there will be "triggering incidents" happening every day [emoji106]

100% agree with you @kukuwai
I was a bit slow having my clear out of extra bits so now I'll just have to wait a few months. Also I don't want to be 1 of the first Guinea pigs
its actually plurry funny/weird timing that Nigel Latter is on TV tonight with programme about how easy it is to scam people via internet
If you, as a FAL owner, get offered and accept buying an unregistered firearm, is there any penalty to bringing a firearm into the registry?
Because if there is a penalty then people aren't going to buy unregistered guns which will create a secondary market for all of the "gey" guns and if there isn't a penalty then some people won't register all of their firearms because they will be able to "bring them in" later
People respond to incentives whatever the morals of the situation may seem
except.....if your registered and buy off someone who isnt...you will bring gun into register doesnt matter if gun is blue ,grey.pink or painted rainbow stripes, there isnt a destinction between where they come from...it matters not.once its in its in.
the catch 22 with only registering some..is if at anytime you have a snap inspection.... and something not registered is found..yo uwill at best be given a please explain...same deal if for some reason your are linked to something not registered..photo on internet etc....
I lived in OZ during the height of their buyback. I didn't know any LFOs there at the time but I heard all sorts of rumors that there was a shortage of large dia plastic pipe due to people using it to bury rifles in the garden. I'm sure they went through the same misgivings that LFOs here are but as @Micky Duck stated you only need to get caught once with 1 item you didn't register and you could be buggered.
Yes fair points and naturally I am deeply concerned that the register may be set up so that it excludes some people from "coming in from the cold" as it were - is there a sarcasm typeface available?
But yeah I haven't been inspected for feckin ages and I should have been (B cat, C cat)
Like others here I am keeping my head down and only buying ammo for the coming period until the election and will see how that rolls out
Is anyone taking bets on how long it will be until the first burglary of an address can be traced back to unauthorised access to the registry?
I put it at about 6 months
They are using objective regworks
https://nz.objective.com/products/objective-regworks
told this before...I was at MSC weekend in Cromwell about 27 years ago and one of the old hats was telling us about incident overseas...pretty sure it was a border in or on edge of the states and pretty sure it was Bob Badlands doing the telling..the guard took details and wandered back into booth..then came out again and asked how our man liked using his revolver..think it was a 357 of some description.... our man was taken aback then realised guard had said same strapped to his belt... .seems the system has been accessible since ...well...forever.
The register looks to be hosted in AWS, and uses AWS certificates and I'm assuming AWS security controls. Looking at Objective Corp they have partnerships with Microsoft and AWS - but I don't see anything about security vendor partnerships (and no I do not count Microsoft as a security vendor). So from a risk point of view, if Objective Corporate built the entire system for Police then they have a very strong skillset in software development for government, and good assurance built around that software - but I would be concerned about the hosting infrastructure security. Going by their other products it's probably built using mostly AWS tools and linux images (and having a little poke at it). Having a quick scan of their docs/certs fort their other it's likely they fall a little short on some NZISM requirements - but that's pure guesswork (though educated guesses).
Short version, it looks like it's built well but probably has some soft gaps.
At least the Dealer side of it is pretty quick and painless. Most of the info auto fills for you. Takes a couple mins at most and done and dusted. Haven't looked at it on the personal side just yet.
Objective RegWorks, had been selected to develop the register, which will require gun owners to enter their name, date of birth, address and other details.
“The Arms Information System (AIS) will be a secure digital platform that will manage the information related to arms (firearms, parts, ammunition, and other restricted weapons), firearms licensing, and any activities associated with the possession and use of firearms,” it said in a statement on its website.
It follows changes to firearms legislation in June 2020, making way for the register, and a pre-budget announcement by Police Minister Poto Williams that included $208m to establish a new Firearms Business Unit within police to oversee the register.
now even with my dodgy old eyes I can spot a couple of glaring errors in the above bit from your article 308
Another bit that rankles is calling it a business unit.
It will be a government department whose sole purpose to administer the registry and firearms licenses.
I'm sure going forward they will try to absolutely pillage us for fees.
It is not a business.
That would make it a SOE and if it's anything like Solid Energy that will be a bigger debacle than I could imagine
Well I put my guns into the system.
Took some time but was not too bad as I put the laptop beside the safe.
Had a call to clarify the capacity of my shotgun within 30 mins of sending it which was a surprise as it’s Sunday.
Option selected was 6 shot as it holds 5 plus one.
Guy on the phone said, are you sure it holds six and not 5 plus one? (Six shot means it’s restricted in there view).
I responded that 5 plus one equals six.
Anyway apparently they will correct the shotgun capacity options to tube capacity plus one so it aligns with their understanding.
Another issue is Ruger American Ranch rifle is not an option.
Only Ruger American.
Asked that they add this option.
Bit surprised as there are heaps of these floating around.
I can see many will have issues selecting the correct version of their firearm, this may cause issues when the firearm is moved on and then it’s recorded as something different.
Eg Ruger 10/22, there are so many versions, plus the version can be changed with minimal changes such as changing the stock.

Plus one was never part of the mag capacity count otherwise a shit load of us holding old 10 shot tube 22s would be breaking the law.
Likewise every 10 shot 303 would now be illegal as well.
It was clarified during the gun grab.
Hi, no first hand experience yet but they say:
To use MyFirearms:
You only need a RealMe login.
You do not need a RealMe verified identity.
