The inspector on RNZ interview said station was manned the whole time. She wouldn't say by how many staff. The door to the evidence was a wooden door that he kicked open.

So if the cops turn up at our house and want to take firearms can we say no until we have inspected their storage facility to ascertain if it is suitable and up to standard. A wooden door that can be kicked open dosen't sound even close to me. Our angle could be if we hand a firearm to someone and they don't have adequate storage we could get prosecuted for giving the firearm to someone who can't store it securely.

Hello NZ firearm owners. Tailfeathers here. USA Hunter, fisherman , firearm owner and strong supporter of firearm rights . I read all the posts concerning this Police Station firearm theft. Watched the interview too. I was very impressed at the high level of journalism of the TV reporter. So well prepared, such direct and strong questions, and it lasted very long. The Police representative was properly grilled. I was also reading the post concerning safe storage of firearms, safes and racks etc. So what I am seeing between the two posts is that the NZ citizen firearm owner must store their firearms as well as transport and carry their firearms under strict laws and the police simply don't? You all have to buy and use safes that are well secured to your house's floors, walls etc, and the police throw them in a corner of a room wit a flimsy wood door?
All my hunting friends have safes in our homes. Not required by law, we just do. They are expensive and heavy for the good ones, but protect our property from theft and fire, and also importantly keep them out of the hands of sh*t bag criminals. ( cam I use this word? hope I dont get banned on my first post. Please dont take my criticism of the Police in that situation as a criticism of your country. All I have read and heard of NZ ispushing me to visit your great country. Good day,
    Tailfeathers

@Sako851 - and no value (if any), being agreed to YET!
I hate to say it, but Mike Bush looked mightily pleased about the 'eradication' of E cat licences and the holders (by association) becoming criminals - in the public's eyes.
Now he wants an 'investigation' into how this event happened?
Just like the 'thorough' vetting process of the Christchurch terrorist - don't expect any knuckles to be rapped - or dismissal notices to be handed out.
The start of the 'divide and conquer' process - led by the PM being fed false or grossly overstated statistics from our Police management - who, funnily enough, couldn't provide the CORRECT information to Mike Loder.

Oops that’s embarrassing. I was one of the early clusterfuck predictors and I now have another. This will not be the last such embarrassment.

If they can't deal with 11 cfirearms how are they going to handle thousands. Crims must be rubbing their hands together with glee on this one thinking about all the firepower coming their way.

That's what I was thinking too. But they were obviously unsecured and unattended! There's 2 firearm regs broken already. Unbelievable.....

A guy from Palmy on another thread here said he went through a back door, kicked open the wooden door to the evidence room and swiped the guns. He then tried going out the front door with them on a trolley but couldn't find the button to open the door so went back out the way he came. There was one MSSA and and several semis that had been handed in for destruction. The rest were exhibits in upcoming court cases. One was described as an unlawful weapon but there was no elaboration on what that meant.

So yes you are right definitely not stored correctly.
