If you rest the end of a rifle barrel on a solid object then take and release the weight of the rifle, you will be surprised how much flex there is in the barrel itself.
The way that you should use that rest is first turn the rest to face the opposite direction, rest the forend of the rifle on the cushion at the front and the stock in the V at the back. In theory and 99% of the time in practice, the barrel/suppressor should not be resting on anything.
Most barrels are free floated from stocks in modern bolt action rifles, the motivations behind this is to not interfere with the barrel harmonics. If the barrel is rested on a rock or clamped when fired, its harmonics will be affected which in turn will affect accuracy.
