    Cesky Fousek New Zealand

    Hi all,

Just putting it out there that CFNZ is up and running with a new sire and new genetics to come (one litter of 10 pups prior to Xmas homed). Currently another litter of 6 bitches and 2 dogs awaiting placement.
There has been a bit of a change within the club and new people have filled key roles. The aim is to continue improving the breed in NZ by testing all progeny and only breeding from those that meet the clubs' standards for hunting and conformation.
So if you want to know a bit more about the breed ask away, or head over to ceskyfousk.co.nz to get a bit of an understanding around what we're about.

    Cheers

Lovely dogs. And good on the breeders for introducing new blood. That last litter were a cracking looking lot.

What sire did you use for the most recent litter? Same as the previous one?

Yes, we've used the same sire (Art) for these two litters. He's a cracking Dog, quite workmanlike in his hunting style. This is a real common Fousek trait, they just get on with it.

When l was guiding in America these were the " in " breed with wealthy Corn Farmers ,they were being used for Deer hunting & locating downed game much the same as we do here & in snow & icy water water fowl hunting so well suited to both of those, would have been early 2000's Mule Deer hunting when l first seen them there so well proven by now.The ones l saw were heavier in build than the Wire haired GSP's etc but do not know whether that was more to do with the Good Old Boy diet etc or their bloodline.

In Europe l hunted upland game with them a few times ,they are one of those breeds that stops regularly & looks at you deeply in the eyes as though they are as much in the planning of the hunt as you are,or calling you out for being clumsy or missing a easy shot ,they look great locked on to point

The price for a pup is in the 2.5k range with a rebate if you you put the dog through a hunt test. So they are not the cheapest dog or the most expensive (by any means) They are a versatile breed mate, so they will work on any game. I use mine for deer, upland, and waterfowl and I've got enough control over him that I'll happily blast bunnies and hares over him if he points them first. To answer your question about cold weather, the Czech Republic has pretty cold winters with most hunting done in sub-zero temps (hence the wirehaired coat) They are a breed that likes a soft handler and plenty of human interaction when not working. So if you're looking for a dog thats primarily going to work all day and be a loyal, loving, family pet when not, then they'd be worth a look.

Cheers for the nice plug there mate, Not often you come across people that have hunted over them in Europe. There is quite a variation in the size of the Fouseks with some lines being up around the 34kg mark for a male. Here we're trying to keep the breed at the lower end of the standard. My 3.5-year-old male is 28kg and is at the minimum end of the standard for males going on the FCI classification.
I know that look too, it's hilarious, as if he's saying hurry up man the birds here!! I've had a few dogs, but this is the first one that will always go back to spots where birds were pointed previously and give them an extra going over, or he'll watch clearings when I'm glassing them and snort loudly if he sees a deer walk out.
