Yep we tried two separate dogs on that bitch, none took which is a shame as she is very well bred. Just too old I guess, she cycled irregularly.

so you got hold of an old bitch bought in by some one else and expected to save the pointer and save money at the same time..........
It's a start...
No better than you hoping to make a few bucks by bringing one single bitch in
actually no, i thought i'd throw a cat among the pigeons and see what sort of reaction i would get.......... it took a few days but at least you bothered to answer.
Happy to oblige :wtfsmilie:
for the record i made some inquires weeks ago and there are suitable dogs in oz for both setters and pointers, in fact a few young pointer bitches have recently been imported. i have no intrest bringing anything over myself but the options are there for you guys.
There are, I have been in contact with 3 Aussie pointer litters. Two were out of my dogs litter brother, one of those was a father daughter mating... The Connors recent import Surefind Weka was one of those two litters, pretty sure not the father / daughter one
The use of the black bitch wasn't out of desperation, it was due to the fact she is better bred than anything currently in NZ.
what NZ lines are you thinking of Kawhia
If the other pup was out of the litter Barry Oliver bred out of Fch Ftch Koram Kris at Innistona, then that's good, but the rest goes back to NZ stuff. I think the dogs behind uplanders dog deserve attention, they go way back into NZ working pointer history. The stuff behind my dog is everywhere as evidenced.
As for keeping NZ setter lines going, absolutely, we have the highest concentration of sharnberry blood in the world.
Regarding setters. The Oz setters are very very close to nz lines being mainly based on nz imports.
They have imported and breed in Upperwood Quailpoint and Skraveldalens C Chili but every time to a nz line. (not a bad thing). We are getting Skraveldalens C Chili blood in through Masterfind ida and getting Upperwood blood in would be great.http://www.williewalker.net/dogarchi...s.php?id=61894
Gamemaster Fernhill is the most winning ES in Oz.
so a good life line is not that far away........... expect to see a few litters hopefully.
you are correct both a dog and bitch was exported to oz........... i will find out exactly what sex they imported, as i thought it was a bitch.
cheers kawhia, it will be good to know whats in NZ
I know Michael Zandona in Victoria had a bitch out of that litter, and is the dam of one of those litters I mentioned above with my dogs litter brother, making it a uncle/niece mating. The other mating was with his daughter out of a bitch out of the famous Aussie 'Rocca' line
If I was to get a a Setter bitch to breed with my dog from Frank Tommy what would you guys suggest
is F-T still breeding ?????
Z , no I don't believe he is .I spoke to him a while back and he is hunting but doesn't sound enthused to do anything at this stage -we all go through those highs and lows in what ever we do or did I guess
Whats here worth crossing with ?
forget here bro.
there is only a limited number of breeding bitches and by the sound of it that number is halved because of personal differences.
that litter of skids has been in the pipeline for 2-3 years so i wouldn't hold ya breath on that one ethier.
if you are keen look towards oz and bring something in.
The stuff behind the planned mating of Cmores will give you a distant double up of Line and Woody, if they are dogs you liked, and if that was a direction you wanted to go.
Why not use your dog as the outcross and put it back to NZ lines since he is out of Warrior?
Or even better, why not do both and see which works?
I would like to but am clueless on breeding hence my asking for advice .I would very much like to see more Setters around and about for sure .Woody was a fantastic dog that I watched compete plenty -a true champion !!
And according to most, no-one else could handle him except for his second owner, NZs greatest P&S handler ever...
Going by the NZKC site blackfield kennels has NZ stuff, have you approached him? Considering there are only a few setter people here, and used the word clueless, why don't you get in contact with the other setter guys, Hendren, Allen etc? Your dog may be of use to them
Yes , I haven't spoken to Noel for years and I don't think he is trialing anymore although I believe Ian is and will see him at the up and coming trial.
Woodys second handler was Noel -I believe Leon was the best ever handler of Woody as he made him up did he not ?
Noel had woody first I believe, passed him on in hi first year? Mortenson straightened him out and made him up, and when he passed on Noel took him back. It seems that the only one who could handle him, and run him to his best, was Leon. I had a well-known triallist tell me that they would pull their dogs out if they knew woody was running, when he was unbeatable.
Talk to those guys, there isn't anyone left alive who could be of more help to you really, they know the breed inside out. Stay out of the politics and good luck whichever way you go!
do you think the quality of these pointers and setters we had in nz in the heydays really were that great if they died out within a generation after the death of a few pillars.
if it wasn't for the introduction of the versatile breeds i reckon the pointer setter scene would be a different story.
I was just looking up Frank Tommy on the net and found myself and 'INTI' born BEBETO
The Progeny of Lapphaugen's H. Moulin
Im just chatting with Noel about setters
Having jus had a chat with Noel Allen for an hour Im quite excited by his young puppy bitch that Ian Hendren bred .Noel commented how intelligent this pup is showing itself to be and has intentions if all goes well of using Woody's stored semen for it to create another super Setter -one for me for sure !
Excellent news!
How many here own English Setters - I own one
