Don't they get to sleep on the night shifts

My bad, I was thinking of the full time guys. I take my hat off to all you volunteers!

    Even the full time guys.

Im a Voluntary rural fire force controller and have stayed at home and on call ( mostly sober ) now for the last 15 years of Christmas and New Year periods.
Our population increases 10 fold at this time of year and this is the first year in my memory ( east coast south island ) that we haven't had a restricted or prohibited rural fire season.
Its generally been a little wetter and cooler than usual .... makes a change from a drought ... but during droughts even the idiots seem to understand and pull their heads in !

So Im expecting a hell of a lot of bonfires and recreational rubbish fires to get out of control this Christmas / New Year.

Best regards to all other emergency services volunteers.

Our station is a bit slack, we only did 5.30PM-7.30AM for the 28th-30th December. Same for the 4th-6th..
