Why not both?
Most of us here don't have one rifle
I bought a Black Hunter recurve to kick things off and still love that bow, it's proven itself a great bow.
I modified some other limbs to fit and now it's a very compact 54" and is a hoot in the bush.
But my favourite is my 64" Bear Montana longbow, mild R/D limbs, very trim and light in the hand, using it with a shoulder quiver just feels right![]()
I would say I will end up with both, was more trying to decide which one first haha
If you try several longbows and recurves you will probably find one that you shoot the best, that would be the logical choice. I have a rack in my gear room with a bunch of bows…recurves and hybrid long bows. I’m fortunate to have a bowyer for a mate and he has built me several. My favorite is a 3 piece takedown longbow, it’s the bow I shoot the best.
Recurves are generally more compact and longbows are quieter in most cases. Traditional archery is addictive…it all about getting close.
Get and ifl and its a breeze if travelling overseas plus can buy separate limbs if you want to up draw.
I first bought a 40lb recurve when I was in Europe. The packability is fantastic and you can easily change the limbs to add or reduce draw weight. Long bows are cool but transporting it would be very annoying. Recurve ticks both the traditional box and the flexibility and modularity.
