    Get a little tiny sharp screwdriver and tap one side of the stubb to turn it out. Put a drop of penetrating oil or acetone ( nail polish remover) on it and leave it a few minutes before trying.

    Thats the 12" mate i imagen the 8" would be around 11" to under side of fore end . The 8" has less range of movements though im not sure it does the splits some reading would be recommended
