Take a hind or two. They will be better eating than the spikers. Testosterone levels go up in them as well, can have an effect on the meat.

Another vote for the wee .308 Bergara, short but still weighty enough to soak up some of that recoil. For what it is mines silly accurate with the Speer 165gr BTSP.

For a really short barrel I would go with a heavy, and potentially softer bullet. More efficient under the circumstances.
