    The 7.62x39 is a great wee cartridge. And I like the ability o put the rifle IN the pack on the trip out if you have already shot enough meat etc....

    I dont know how much 'mucking' around with this you want to do, but I have seen a couple of these rechambered , one into 303, and another into 7.62x54R. I do not know if the x39 twist rate is similar...

    Dont worry about head shots. Hit the chest which is still not large. Almost all the meat is below the rib cage so meat damage from a lung shot is not as great as with a deer/ goat etc....
