Awesome story, thanks for...shearing :yaeh am not durnk:
I used to load them at mag length with the short magazine. 2.785 inches or thereabouts I think, shot well. 40.5 grains of 2208 in federal cases, 2620 fps. Same barrel length as you too.
Don't know if this will work but it seems this has come up before, on this forum even

April fools was weeks ago mate come on :XD:
I got the email as well. All gone by the time I got there
If I wanted it ready for the weekend I'd load a bunch more at 25.1 and be happy until I got home again :XD:
Then if I hadn't run into pressure during the outing that produced the groups above, I...
I don't know if you'd call it simple, but I normally load a max pressure ladder, start mid range according to a data source (book or hodgdon website) and load over book max and shoot until I get...
Yep they need a bit of resistance, at most ranges in my experience with the 30 cal AMAX. Shot many goats with them at about 10-20 yards with 308win, quite a few shot through both shoulders needed...
I participated, then supervised a couple of mates came round and loaded up 40 rounds of 270 win, 130 grain Hornady interlock with Win 760 powder and CCI primers to send them out the barrel.
I don't think I had a 243 long enough to call it a pet but target/2208 and IMR4064 worked really well with 90 to 105 grain bullets. Plenty of pace from a 20 inch barrel and very consistent, single...
Nah federal was the one, big chamber on that rifle. Always backed off when I got a harder bolt lift. I like speed but I like living too :P
I find that theory relates to barrel harmonics. The charge that means the bullet leaves the barrel when the pressure wave is at the other end of the barrel. Speed of the pressure wave vs speed of the...
I played with IMR4064 and 95 grain Nosler ballistic tips, incredible combo in the 243. I put a load together as a curiosity and had 3 powder charges loaded up at 0.5 grain increments. Third group...
I spent ages mucking around with my 24 inch rem mag when I had it (I'm bloody tempted to get another one and go short like you have). I started with 2225, ended with disappointment, 2213sc was...
Oh yeah sweet, that's the ticket then.
Thanks Arced
I don't do a lot of walking with it so not an issue.
It certainly does
Even goats at 10-30 meters, send them through the path of most resistance and you'll be away.
As is said above, it's amazing how some stuff has stayed around the same price with some materials price being far above that of the past. Manufacturing processes have come a long way. I
I'm...
Soooo old mate is buying a 243 instead :XD:
I'm all sorted, cheers all.
2208 goes really well in the 243. I've been loading the 105 Targex with it, 2910fps average out of a 20 inch barrel does well. Load is getting up there at 39.5 grains.
Thanks all, good info. Just waiting for old mate to buy the rifle and see what he wants to do
I had heard about this issue with 2209, I always start low so shouldn't be a problem
I will likely use Hornady dies as they have worked and do work well in the cartridges I have...
Yeah looks like the options are pretty broad, think I'll stock with the Aussie stuff, seems to be good stock and priced a bit more reasonably.
Pretty sure I can get that at the local too, choice.
