Not me personally but whitnessed a red spiker collapse on the spot from a 230gr atip out of a 300norma mag at 1046m. Fist size exit, vitals cavity was full of what resembled red jelly that had been stirred vigorously. No more or no less meat damage than an eldm for example as a good long range projectile comparison. Similar to what you may expect from a 30 cal gameking at moderate distances.

I'm running the 153 Atip at just shy of 3000fps.
Only have a sample of two so far a yearling red and a big spiker red.

Yearling red broadside shot 160y....just kissed the shoulder meat but hit no bone, anialated the off side lung and left a tennis ball sized exit. Lost pic of lungs somehow.

Bloody meat/shock seemed similar to a 223 and soft points on the inside but the entire shoulder was usable.
Ripped a big hole threw lungs 3" exit...animal didn't react to shot and wandered off into bush. Massive blood trail, made it no more than ten yards.

Spiker front on shot looking straight at me.
    Estimated 150y.
Shot went threw osophagus and the hole in the chest where all the pipes come threw so the projectile hit nothing hard at all....took me quite a while to even find the point of entry.
It clearly still opened and took out one lung and carried on threw the paunch and intestines to come to rest somewhere near the hind quarters but I wasn't going looking for it.

Very small sample but it seems to penetrate more than the amax before opening...I can't help wondering how it will go at more extended ranges....will it open?
I'm new to 6.5 so maybe this not drop on the spot is normal?
178amax at 3k makes them stop drop and roll from any range I'm confident to shoot.

Not about Atip but what you said about "drop on the spot" VCam.

My experience is that the 6.5 can be a slow killer - especially at longer ranges. To drop deer with the 6.5 it seems to need to be a hillar/high shoulder shot.
My experience has been with the 6.5x55 (lots) and 6.5 PRC (several) shooting 140 grn Amax and Sierra.

Having said this the 6.5 always kills them and does do a lot of damage with soft bullets. The 6.5 in all guises is an effective and accurate cartridge (in my experience) but it aint no whack em over .30 cal.

I shot these 2 last Thursday with the 6.55x55 and 140 AMax. Velocity 2830 fps.

Higher shoulder shot at 140 yards dropped on the spot.

To add a comparison bullet, 156 berger 2850 muzzle velocity, 255m shot steep uphill, in behind shoulder, bullet jacket found high centre offside shoulder under skin. Damage extreme on both sides, both shoulders destroyed
