+1 for Leica, I have the ERi 2.5-10 x 42, it's a stunning scope. Good price here Leica ERi 2.5-10x42 4a Riflescope 55022 for sale! - EuroOptic.com and they do ship to NZ (or at least they did last year).

I've used a mates VX 6 2-12, with firedot. It was awesome, with magnification set at 2x the firedot was extremely fast to pick up and made close shots very quick.
Glass was really nice and the scope was reasonably lightweight.
I would personally go for the Windplex firedot reticle with the Zero lock turret, I have a similar design reticle in my Burris scope and it works really well. With the Firedot added would in my opinion be almost unbeatable for a hunting rifle.

Does the 2-12 come with zero lock?

The new ones do (and the newer HD version) but that's only for the elevation turret. If they kicked like the Zeiss they would be primo.

I have just seen a second hand noghtforce 2.5-10x32, MOA, SFP, illuminated np-r2 reticle for what would work out to be about $2000NZ. Nice scope, I had a think about getting it but couldn't justify the spend...
