I don't think I'd so the shotgun route when buying for someone else - choosing one to 'fit' correctly is a personal thing. If it doesn't fit he won't shoot well with it, and it won't really matter how pretty or high quality it is at that point.

I agree, Sako Bavarian or Bavarian Carbine would be good options. They are pretty & come with a set trigger, I have one in .375h&h.
In 6.5x55, I would prefer the barrel length of the regular Bavarian over the Carbine's 20" barrel.
So been down to the local, getting a price on a nice walnut stocked Sako Bavarian 6.5x55 with a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 P BT L mounted. Nice gun bag, leather strap, ammo.
Are there any other thoughts or suggestions?
Should I consider another calibre??? .260? .243?
Kind of want to get this right for them.

Might be just me, but I think the Bavarian is the most horrid stock I've ever handled if you're adding glass on top.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds
