    Jerry Cans

Got a couple of Jerry cans, will be storing diesel in them, one the seal under the lid has seen better days the other is in good condition, was going to give them a clean out inside with some older diesel with diesel conditioner, this should work or am i over simplifying it, they dont smell like they have had petrol in them but can’t guarantee

Think you might be able to get a new seal at Bunnings.

I'm envious - I always keep a lookout for those old Jerrycans but they rarely come up on Tardme or FB marketplace. Perfect design.

Same, trying to find holders for them is a mission, happy with these two, insides are a little worn but i will give them a clean out and see if anything comes out that shouldn’t!

I use these regularly. I now always use a filter funnel to fill the quad or bike, as the inner paint lining is now flaking off.

A point to note: fuel kept in these (steel) containers will last for years, as long as it stays full. No air for the fuel to oxidise with, and no plastic for the volatile fractions to sneak out through.

I got a 20L jerry can but it `s got bit of rusts inside because we used it to store 75% alcohol at the beginning of C19. I do`t think I can get rid of those rust, but do you think this can still usable?

There is a company that clean out car fuel tanks & coats them inside, someone may know who they are?

There are cheaper one on ebay too

Or I have bought some new 20l & 10l ones from these guys. The valpro ones they sell are the ones to get, they are coated on the inside unlike the knockoff Chinese ones

If rusty either mechanical cleaning or acid removal paste applied. If washing out, petrol is fine, tip out and let the residue evaporate. Don't overthink it...

Sand and water inside the can and put in the concrete mixer for an hour or two cleans up the inside.

Yep, mechanically clean it either scotchbrite on a stick or gentle sanding followed by a good flush out or acid wash it. Then a liner product or just clean it with petrol and tip out and let evaporate and check for residue, if clean fill with fuel.

Por15 has a very good reputation on my motorcycle restoration forums for sealing slightly rusted fuel tanks on older bikes, could be worth a try to save your jerry can

There are thousands of original German ones still in use here.

Kraftstoff ( fuel) or wasser ( water) stamped on the side of them.

Thank you gents for the tips but considering the costs of cleaning it, then buy a new one may is a better choice for me.
