    Beyond the Bic

Find lighting fires with the old Bic lighters gets a bit tiring piss poor flame, but still burns fingers.
What is the best alternative that can light paper, fire lighters, fire gel napalm you name it anything the Bic can do.
And am I wrong thinking the new ones aren't as good?

@sportco62 Not so silly . I watch a lot of wilderness camping vids on Youtube. Russia, Canada and so on. They set their fire up with not what I would call good kindling, then low and behold they produce one of those to get the fire started.

Firelighters weigh sod-all and are cheap

Also Hand sanitiser burns with a steady blue flame so you can feed some tinder into it and get a fire going that way

Oh yeah, take to your Bic with a pair of needlenose pliers and pull the child protection clip doodad off, easier to use that way

+1. Good for starting fires in a bit of breeze or reaching in and lighting tinder. I got mine from George Henry

Mmmm, after the comments above I thought I would grab a Hot Devil for home.
After reading the reviews I'll not bother and just continue to use the el cheapo gas bbg lighter of for getting the incinerator underway, my ancient primus small bottle burner.

It would be useful if vesta matches were reintroduced

Thanks for the ideas, wondered if I would try the magnesium striker doodads.
I take Aromachef sachets and they are good and clean 10-12 in a zip lock with a Bic weights zit.
Not sure how they magnesium striker ones go.

But I do not know who stocks the sachets them now.
    Mitre 10 used too.
Used to use a firelighter under enamel mug on 3 small stones for a hot drink might have too go back to doing it.
The Bic is pretty reliable but...

I've used one of these quite a bit :https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/peri-gas-torch/p/381730
Peri make a cheaper one but it fails to ignite after a while.

Cavemen would have fought to the death for a Bic lighter and a few strips of rubber

A mate got these off his wife, soaked them in candlewax (parafin wax) and uses them as firestarters. $1.40 for 50 of them.

I think we timed one burning for 4-5 minutes.

As usual its the initial flame that's the difficult part. Today's matches are pretty much a waste of time, and all the flash harry lighters work for about 20 uses then become cantankerous.
