Soot only burns off at around 500 degrees Celsius.

reason i ask is logically it would get hotter than they typical fold out type.
Yeah, it does get warm, but can still pour the water into a freeze-dri wearing a glove. If making a cup of tea, the time the tea bag has soaked, it's cool enough to hold.

I did use to use this cup with the old kero tablets, hence the soot. Meths is a bit cleaner. Still hot though.

Just for thought. I use a multi fuel cooker with petrol at the moment. Could u cook toast on it? Would the fumes be a problem.

Takes approx 1:30 to prime, then approx 7:30 to boil 700ml of water in a semi-tall titanium 750ml mug, with meths and a windshield. I like it so far... not sure what to do with the leftover meths in there after blowing it out. Pouring into anything seems like a mission

e: you can use one of the legs as a bit of "spout" for the leftover meths to run down back into a container, it turns out.

Jeepers, I got bored and timed my 25-30? year old kovea on some doite gas (this is at home no wind) with 1l ti pot 500ml of water 2.5min to starting boil 3 min to boiling its arse off.
Thats at 3/4 throttle full bore at sea level is just wasting gas, drop in temp (within reason not talking arctic or 2500m) doesn't phase it but wind of course it takes a bit longer but would be more wind tolerant than a non pressurized alcohol burner

Yah but I bet your cooker doesn't weigh 24 grams and the fuel container (plastic bladder) also weighs next to nothing. Boiled that water on approx 20ml of meths... I don't mind waiting an extra 3 minutes before I have my cup of coffee in the morning or my mashed spud for dinner.

e: also I am boiling more water?

e2: I bet this meths thing will suck balls in any wind

Yes more water but only half as much again.
I am far to rough to use any bladder but the one inside my body used to store urine untill such time as I need to drink it and even then there is a chance it could get punctured.

Yeh the meths idea just seems to unreliable, chances are i would spill all my fuel or it would be blowing a gail if i tried to use it. I'm happy with what i have bought, should turn up in a week or so hopefully

yep but I'm willing to give it a try because of the lightweight of the cooker, fuel container, and the less-waste factor (no half empty canisters to worry about). I know the last one can potentially be mitigated by the refill adapter but I will consider that if the alcohol stove doesn't work out.

Yep I see what you are trying to do of course, for me tho the convenience and safety of gas is hard to beat and I am unlikely to accidentally spill all my fuel.
Lighter is good but not always better, I should probably upgrade my old kovea for the 20dollar TI cooker linked earlier and I may yet but for the weight saved its kind of Meh.
If I am going for long enough to need more than one small canister I aint walking and will fly in my camp cooker and real food.

I am not doing any fly-in trips on my own time in the foreseeable future for various reasons.
