    270 and superformance

Hey team, I have got my mates rem 700 again but this time doing a load with the 150sst as we couldn’t source anymore eld-x. We have managed to get our hands on superformance finally so that will be the powder of choice. Anyone got top tips on their experience with this combo before I start my process? Loads that worked for you and start points, pressure points etc.

    Thanks

Hi I'm just doing a couple of mates .270 at the moment but I'm using eldx first ladder is in a browning with a hardy barrel and I have settled on 57 grn and 3004 fps.
The other one is a Remington that I'll be doing a load for next week.
The Hodgdon superprofrmance works well I also did a load for a sako with eldx and that worked out to be 57 grn

Think it was Mooseman that had some pretty good results with superformance a year or so back - maybe do a search

I found that velocity went up and down as I increased charge weight which was a surprise. Pressure didnt spike like 2213 but was more gradual in increase. I think it is quite a safe powder, even if frustrating sometimes.

Anyone found a trend with where the 150 .277 sst likes to be seated? I’m guessing it’s not overly fussed being an sst and was just gonna go about 50 thou jump (no magazine length to worry about so gotta pick something lol).

How much jump was that bro? This rifle is throated bloody long and that would have them at probably around 300 thou jump

its a .270 poke load in thats not over max and IS CORRECT POWDER ....and go shoot it. never seen point in getting too fussy as they have always just shot well for me pretty much what ever Ive loaded.

I was under impression the ELD-M/X (one of them) is pretty much a more streamlined sst.....

Well if they are anything like eldx they probably won't be fussy on jump either your rifle will shoot em or it won't.
    Ladder test will tell all
The jury is out on superformance for 270 for me personally, 2213sc is proven stable and good accuracy as was 2217 I see little gain to be had from using superformance maybe 100fps seems to be a lot of mucking around to get it shooting consistently at the higher velocities for what is still only a 400ish yard round.
My 2 cents. I'm sure others results will vary.
As previously stated every rifle is different and they will like different loads.
Ladder test lader test ladder test that's where the answers will be found.

yes Ive seen results elsewhere that said the superpreformance was rather inconsistant, with velocities being good or bad depending on where on ladder you looked and high spread across the good bits.....wouldnt bother me as dont use chronicgraph....

The better projectiles are a bit non existent atm. Working with what we can get. There is no magazine or anything to pluck a seating depth from, it’s completely free range long internal mag hence i’ve gotta pick something at a guess like i’ve been trying to say and go from there lol, allgood. Cheers for the replies, i’ll get into it.

you will already have a load the rifle likes???? so put that loaded round in loading press and set your seating die using that loaded round......the point on olgive where seater stem engauges SHOULD be in similar place.....
gives you a starting point, its ALL some of us ever do LOL.
