Thanks I'll work up a load when I run out of my 150 ELD-X

For those that are interested I have a powder temp/stability chart I found online

    2208/Varget is listed as 0.13/deg F by my calcs this equals 0.24 FPS/Deg C
    RL15 is 1.52 FPS/Deg F___________or___________2.7 FPS/Deg C
    RL17 is 1.42/ Deg F______________or____________2.6 FPS/Deg C
    CFE223 is 1.70/ Deg F____________or____________3.1 FPS/Deg C

But the only way to know for sure is to measure it with a chrono at different temps

I’m using the Plain Jane AR2209 with the 162 ELD m’s, I’m seating them long 2.92oal for me that’s a 50 tho jump. Single feeding but have smashed both Deer and Tahr at good distance for the 7-08. 590yd spiker, dropped on the spot. 680yd Bull Tahr x2, Both dropped on the spot (at 1600m alt that round is still carrying 1200ft-lbs at 775yds) At 100m alt it’s carrying 1200ft-lbs out to 600yds.
The ELDs are at 2650fps, I know higher velocities can be achieved with the reloader but unless I had it for another project I’d not bother fixing something that isn’t broke.

In Nathan Fosters cartridge book he states the 708 to be a 850yard cartridge when using the 162 eldm at a MV of 2650 fps. Also states the best powder to be the good old 2208.
Very impressive stats for the 708

I’ve made up a load for a friend with the 2208 and while not quite as consistent as my load, mainly due to the effort he wanted in the process, his rifle is now well capable at 600yds. He wanted basic 139gr SP projectiles for shots around 300yds with the option to push it if necessary.

    @Gkp I'll be bush pigging a 7mm08 to 16" shortly with 160gr TMKs.

Very intriguing to see how 2208 performs.

I have just been through this exercise with a mates Tikka with a 20 inch barrel. 162eldm and rl17 giving us 2700fps with an sd of 4fps shoots amazingly well.

Mate if I was going short on the 708 I would go 18 inches and run a barnes 120 ttsx with win 760 to achieve 3050fps. Gives impressive results

I'm going off the lines of a softer bullet going slower will kill just as well as a lighter bullet travelling fast. Plus I can use the same projectile for my 284 and 708

Seems sensible, and it won’t chew out your barrel.

It will work which ever you choose. But I would recommend 18 inches as a minimum for the 708 as it will give you far better velocity options.
You can always go shorter later.
3050fps will not chew your barrel out.

    Yes.

I run the 162gr Amax at 2640fps using AR2208. It has proven itself to be an effective combination having taken animals from point blank to 550 yards.

What length barrel are you running with the 2209?
BC doesn't matter, until you need to dial

In reference to temperatures, I was gong shooting to 600 yards this weekend, both with the 284 and 7mm08 at 0 degrees and at (unknown as yet) elevation. It was quite interesting that both my friends rifles, and mine both shot about 2.5 to 3 MOA higher, and an increase in about windage was also needed.
This was working off Strelok predictions.
Less friction during flight I presume, but both the 162ELDMs and 160 TMKs were very consistent, so happy.
