    Barnes .224 TTSX - 55gn or 62gn

I've read a few threads on the Barnes.
A few people swear by the 55gn, but I see TM vendor Hannon has the 62gn on Trademe as well.

I understand that they need speed to open the petals up, so leaning towards the 55gn.

Rifles will be a 22" barrel Sako 1 in 8" twist and a 16" 1 in 9" twist AR15, so again 55gn might be better for stabilising in the AR15.

    Your thoughts?
    Welcome to Sako club.

I would go 62gr, should stabilise fine in 1:9, i don't think you will notice much difference between the two though, will be more academic than practical.
If you were comparing 55gr and 75gr then i would say you would have a marked difference.

70gr! because the 55gr have such an abysmal BC that the tiny speed advantage they have initially disappears very rapidly

    (or 62gr TTSX)

Depends on your application and range.
I’ve used the 55 grn out to 300 yards on deer no problem. Kills them proper.
Barnes can be tricky to get to shoot. TTSX 55 grn worked with 27grn 2208, so I’ve just stuck to it.

Forget the acronyms...BC, SD, G7 and whatever. Hunting deer with a .223 out to 300 yards they mean nothing.

I’m sorry Dreamer, I’m not sure, because I just made them up at magazine length and they worked.

I will have a measure up for you tomorrow.

This rifle; a Savage Light Weight.
But this was with a 69 Targex, which I use a bit too. 293 yds.

p.s.The Barnes 55 TTSX are seated to exactly the bottom of the bottom (2nd) canelure, using new Norma cases.

Here’s one that copped a Barnes. About 240 yards. I’ve taken the mag out in the pics. Bolt open and mag out after I've found them. Its a habit.
