    Have you seen this before

Was loading some Hornady Whitetail brass today and when I went to seat the primers they were tight as. I had to squeeze them in hard so I could get them out of the shell holder. Once out they were still protruding out about a mil or two. I was using Federal 210 Large rifle primers, some other brass I was loading seated the primers perfectly. Has this happened to you before?Name: 20210606_151603.jpg

Circle crimp around the factory primer? What happens if you ream the pocket?

Have you got a vernier to measure primer length/diameter and pocket depth/diameter. Be pretty hard to tell difference in diameters for a tolerance on the press fit though.

Yes measure the primer thickness / depth. I once had a run of a rand of primers that protruded. When I measured them they were out of spec compared to my usual cci's.

Yep, have seen several times (different calibres) with Norma brass and Fed primers. Have to ream out the pockets thoroughly and even then the primers are pretty tight

My vernier aren't the flash ones but I might try reaming them out a bit, don't like chucking once fired brass.

I have always found Fed primers to be tight, even when reamed on some calibers, seems to be on small and large. I didnt like what they did on a meaty dillon 1050. It would shove them in regardless ( it has an inbuilt swager ) but smear a semicircle of outer primer pocket, like a sliver of moon.

see link I put up...ITS NOT CRIMP which was my first thought too,as Hornady have been crimping the superpreformance line and it seems to have carried over to other lines....these oddball cases are different...buggered if I can suss out where they got oddball primers from....unless whole shebang is a Chinese ripoff counterfeit nothing makes sense

Thanks guys for the links sounds as if it is a common problem with this Hornady brass. I will email Hornady and send some pics to see what they say but using the deburring tool might fix them.
