If I was @dannyb I would section one of his 7mm Atips just to be sure. The 6.5 Atips might be different internally than the 7mm Atips.

@sneeze the 147gr eld-m in my 6.5prc has been an absolute hammer on the deer I've shot recently (150m-500meters) (7 reds in last 2weeks) , a noticeable impact difference to the 143 eldx and 140gr gold dots. (I'm shooting bonded bulllets in the bush).
Had they been available at the time I would have given the 147s a spin but like everything else back then people were paying stupid money for what little there was. . The Hammer bullets while spendy were and are readily available. The user is sold on them and dosnt mind the cost.

It will be interesting to see how they go, I have seen a few 6.5 A Tips fail to reach the target, a mate was using them in his target rifle and they blew to pieces.

So don't, no one is forcing you to. I just wanted to play with them, I know of at least 1 hunter here in NZ that is using them with great results.
They probably are a little harder, that being the case just put them through the shoulder.
Reality is I will probably revert to either 162gn ELDM's or 180gn ELDM's or 175gn ELDX unless bondstrike becomes available or maybe some fmj
Chances are I'll find something else that appeals to me that I want to try.

Iv been around more than a few decades and know the history, not disputing it in any way. Put simply the amax is a bullet marketed as a match/ target bullet and performs as a hunting projectile. Your picture confirms this. You seem to be implying that the further designation of " varmint , medium game makes my point invalid. If that's the case then we will have to agree to disagree?
The berger vld maybe a better example of a match bullet that has made the transition to successful a hunting projectile.

Have been away hunting most of this week, shot a few deer however they were all inside 250 yards so I used Sako blade factory ammo (conveniently it shoots almost the same P.O.I only 1/2" lower).
I happily would have used the A-Tips at 200+ yards, however the situation called for a quick shot so no time to be fumbling around changing ammo.
I did however take the opportunity to shoot a couple of goats at 530 yards and it absolutely pole axed them both were bang flop results.
Granted only a very small sample so far, but I'm happy to keep using them for know, keeping my sako blade rounds for spook and shoot situations.

there is also another factor at play in reguards to what a projectile is "designed for" and its not often mentioned
the armed forces are bound by a certain agreement signed many years ago (well most so called civilised ones are) to only use either FMJ or match projectiles..the match projectile thing is for the long range type fellas..you know who I mean so wont say it.
by calling certain projectiles match..they are able to be used...sierra have one thats labeled along similar lines and I BELIEVE that was the reasoning behind it.

Brief outing today to stretch the rem mag out a little further, 3 hits on the gong about 1.5" left of center in gusty conditions gong was 12" diameter set at 609 yards. Shooting off the bipod standing behind my mates flat deck ute. Group size was about 4" sorry no pics or measurements, I did have a 4th shot that was after I had shot my group and let my mates have a few shots and this was also about 1.5" left of center but about 6" higher (dunno if it was a flyer or if I muffed the shot but still plenty good enough from a standing position.
I'd like to try another charge ladder when I have the time, but in smaller steps to see if I can tighten up my ES and SD.
Wind was blowing right to left so explains why my shots were slightly left as I held center of the gong for all my shots to get an idea of how much drift I would get.
    Good times
