They are steel cored which is why they're a bit longer than the usual jobbies for the same weight and therefore subject to another piece of nonsense legislation regarding prohibited ammunition. I found this out when I noticed strange bits below a steel target, they've got a flat nosed mild steel core in, these are a few recovered from a plank placed below a very angled plate. Amusingly more damage was done to the plate surface (ar 450) by some Hornady soft point than by this stuff

yeah, most powders are like this with the x39 man, its small. im runnin a coal of 2.245 an the load is not compressed but you wouldnt fit a gnat in there .

The 30.30 was the minimum permitted for many years in Vic and justifiably so. (Min 2" case rule)

But I think if you restrict your shots to say, 120 meters you will be ok. Given the nature of the bush where Sambar like to hang out it's unlikely that will be a problem for you.

A bit further for Reds. Say 150mtrs

You don't have access to a 270 or 308? Much better options.
You miss this point i think mate, that is the culture an trend of 'sambar' hunting... or perhaps you grew up reading Kens book ? ha ha
of course, when hunting the aim of the game is the close the gap, place a shot- i think its a hunters rifle, not a shooters.

Shooting fallow does is not the same a Sambar Stags.
Average live weights of male deer. These are the numbers I have.

    Fallow 60 -70kg
    Reds 200kg
    Sambar 260kg up to 300kg.

    Good luck.
If you were any good you would use a 22lr. Ha.
Hunt safe, look after the bush & plug more pests. The greatest invention in the history of man is beer.

It's moa and im happy to take a shot at up to 250 metres on a red deer if it's a good presentation. The bullet looks ugly but is very effective.
Same. Shot reds with good effect even with Chinese Norinco & once hit in the vitals they go down pretty quick; but the longest shot was about 150 yds on a yearling hind.
