Thread: Load for 260 sako/tikka

Hi, anyone have a load for a 260 Remington using 143 eld x / 147 eld m and Reloder 26? Currently using lapua cases, fed primers, 44 grains 2209 and a 147 eld m. This produces c. 2700 fps in 20 inch finnlight but was wondering if R26 could get me up to 2800 fps. Cheers.

Not sure you'll gain much with RL26 and a 20" barrel, it's slower than 2209 and usually performs better in a longer barrel. Maybe RL17 could be the answer. @gimp might be able to help with that rifle bullet combo?

Try RE16 as well if you can.

I'm using a non specified quantity of 2209 for a similar speed to you - 2740 with 147

Try Hodgdon superprofrmance, I load it in 3 x .260 with 143 ELDX 2 are 20" Tikka and 1 18" Tikka the 20" get 2860fps and the 18" is at 2810fps I load RL26 with these in my Creedmoor at 2777fps.

That load above is a cracker! Mint speed and accuracy and from a short barrel aswell. The 260 seems to a very common winner in these little setups.

Thanks fellas. I’ll try R26 and if it’s no good superformance powder will be next.

2209 is really good in 260s. My 18" barrel spits 140eldms out at 2730~ . Shoots just over 0.5" @100. Shot 3 x 260s and all of them have liked 43.5gr 2209

48grns of superformace was the load that came with that gun but seemed to hot for me

Note all these loads are with long mag and bolt stop and seated 10thou off the loans so bullets are seated way out.
