20 boxes of ammo would cost me around $1800.....could get a reloader kit and a bunch of "ingredients" for that kind of money....and then I've never to worry about being "out of stock"

I'm a big fan of the $300 lee anniversary kit and find it more than adequate to produce very accurate handloads. I always buy a collet die for whatever new caliber I get because I'm lazy and you don't need to lube the cases.

I find reloading is way cheaper so long as you get into the habit of ejecting the brass into your hand, not way off into the bushes somewhere... Depends how much shooting you do before you've paid off the initial investment I guess

Generally I'm chambering another round as soon as I can after firing, not much wiggle room to catch the ejected brass.....not with my reflexes anyway! I nearly always manage to recover ejected brass.....mostly because I bloody hate litter bugs!

The Lee Handloader kit plus a set of scales is more than adequate to reload hunting ammo that’s been first fired in your own rifle. Takes a bit of practice can produce ammo in a reasonable time frame, probably wouldn’t want to do more than about 40 rounds a week on a regular basis though.

Or join a range that has the gear.

This is of course correct.

But ask around perhaps here.

243 is a common round.
Used,press,
Used beam balance
And LEE RGB dies
Solid bench and your on your way.

It isn't hard.

The only press I have mounted permanently on a solid bench is a Hornady progressive.
All my single stage ones I just fix to a short length of 6x2. A couple of G clamps and I can mount them on any solid flat surface.

I do the same, but also screw the powder thrower that comes in the cheap lee kit to it. Find that to be really accurate at least with the powders I use. I don't notice any difference in accuracy weighing charges individually. Putting the brass though a collet die then charging and bullet seating wouldn't take longer than 15-20 mins for 50 odd rounds

Seems to be a common theme.

For me I reload because I can produce a product at least as good, probably better than a factory one, and I can buy materials enough to guarantee supply for multiple years. Also it does work out cheaper over the long term.

Well after a couple of hours over at @Basenjiboy place, being shown and explained and answering my many questions, along with getting my hand in on re-loading some 308 cartridges...I think it's safe to say I will have a new hobby in due course!
Who knew it could be so fascinating!! Many thanks to Basenjiboy for reaching out and giving me some of his time, he's a good bugger

There is also the satisfaction when you reload and its goes well - at the range today with the new (to me) Savage 243, two loads to try, 100gn load, same as previous owner, plus at few 58gn V-max (thanks @Pengy, now I need to spend more money on projectiles - you did say they shoot like a laser!). Late in the day and had already been sighting in and checking loads on another couple of rifles, so eyes were getting tired, but first three shots still grouped under moa, then a few clicks down before trying a 4th in the round dot. At 3540 fps, can't wait to get down sth Canty way and find some Wallabies to try them on...
