Yeah, I was thinking of a .17 CF, fireball or something odd. MV 3800-4100. And comparing to my 63gn .223 load @ 2830fps

Horses for courses. No wind, flat shooting, the .17 will get there in a hurry. But as said, I like a bit more girth.

There is a big thread running on this cartridge on AHN forum if your interested. Ruger rifle seems to be most popular.

@Maca49 not wrong the 204 is a cracking calibre.
They still fall into the reloading thing.
And the previous comments about cheap 223 ammo is pretty relevant also.
I still see it as a pretty cool little cartridge. It isn't a lot dearer than a 17hmr but the big thing is rifles.
They need the strength of a centerfire but need the bolt design of a rimfire. The 17hmr was an easy fit into existing designs, semis not so much.
The previous comment about having one in an AR type semi isn't a bad idea as it would be the most powerful.semi we would be allowed but they cost a shit ton.
If someone like H+R did one in their break open rifles that would be a very affordable option.
At the moment their are only about 4 rifles made for them.
It certainly doesnt help the market share.
Ammo back in the day didnt always help but ironically I believe all the ammo is made in the same factory regardless of packaging.
The initial rifle offerings of the thin barrel b mags with a crap stock did hurt them.
They do have a.passionate following in the states.
You either dont like them or love them to bits

I’ve got a Remington with an after market trigger fitted, the 204 is one accurate round!! And motor at 4000 FPS, very flat shooting out to 3-400 metres and hydraulics like shit!

Te internet tells me the 17wsm will spit a 20gr at 3000fps. Brother is running a 40gr 223 load at closer to 4000. IIRC my 53gr load was about 3250. Not even in the same league. But you wouldn't expect it to be with the case size!
