When you get to a certain age a bit depends on wether you're at the top or bottom and what your options are to change that . . . .

I am surprised that anyone would use a 223 on deer. In Victoria Australia we are not allowed to use anything less than a 243 for Hog, Fallow & Chital and a 270 for Samba, Rusa and Red.

And so after reading this thread with hundreds of posts from many of us doing so, with thorough satisfaction, what do you think now?

That's pretty obviously due to legislation, poorly written, by people that should fuck right off.

If you read the whole thread,,, they have a 100% success rate.

    I wouldn't, I'm also in Vic. But wouldn't anyway.

Hunt safe, look after the bush & plug more pests. The greatest invention in the history of man is beer.

Nobody ever said 100% success rate with the .223. Just as there isn't 100% success rate with 300 win mag.

Deserved scuds if you can't figure that out

You Ausies have only been deer stalkers for about 5 minutes. You wouldn't have a clue
Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

The only thing you dont need a permit for in oz is a crap, the rest are designed to suppress the population.

As Preacher says, nobody suggests 100% success rate with 223 but that is the same for all calibers.

What is the success rate of hits with the 223?id take a guess 65-75%
Maybe 80% bit higher with a bigger cal.
Many many variables but somewhere around that

Do you mean "hits" or "fatal", big difference

I'd have thought this sort of thing was well put to bed. Cal. has almost nothing to do with it. A bad shot with a bigger cal is still a bad shot and the idea of "more margin for error" is not really a thing in real life.
