Every 3 or 4 weeks someone sees the thread title and, without reading and understanding the nuance, feels obligated to pop in and tell all the people doing it successfully and satisfactorily that, although they've never tried it, it couldn't possibly work

As I’ve said before, he doesn’t tell us anything constructive about the subject,
but he sure tells us plenty about himself.

ethical hunting verses ego. that's up to you .

There is a saying that comes up in workplaces, particularly large work places where some folks have "those jobs" that don't actually do "anything" to create end product.... I can not do your job,but my systems/computers tell me your doing it wrong...... Yip that fits here.

    My mate's got a 223 that shoots holes through a 10mm steel plate at 100m with FMJ's at around 3000 f/s I think.
It's obviously got the energy for some good hunting, but if it was me i'd use Nosler partitions or swift A-frames if I were going to attemt anything other than head or neck shots within 100m

A few deer from a recent trip in the hills. Shot 5 from 35m to 320m with 75gr hpbt for a change. The deer had a hard winter in this area and some of the yearlings are quite skinny. Even some hinds had ribs, spine and hip bone exposed, probably should of shot them too.

Shooting a bit of steel with a FMJ tells you nothing.
A .223 with the correct projectile for the game you hunt is a great caliber.

This doesn't add a lot to the knowledge base but I'm adding it as it's the first deer I've shot with the .223! About 50m shot, factory ELDm load, hit through square through the shoulder,it went about 30m down a steep bank. Didn't pentrate the off side shoulder, found bits of bullet and massive damage. Overall it did exactly what I'd expect of the same shot with the 308 but no blood trail.Name: 20251003_091631.jpg

Went for a solo hunt today got to my usual slips at around 3.30 sat there till 5.30 then spotted a nice fat hind 250M so lined up the little Sako carbon light .223 shooting 77tmk and smacked it.
She came tumbling down the slip, I had just sat up grabbed my binos and spotted another one same distance just along a bit so lined up on the neck this time and sent it flying off the slip to the river below.
Those 77tmk do some damage the first one I hit in the front of the shoulder and angled it back through the heart and lungs and the picture is the exit.
