Why? I have just as much dislike for these clowns but a petition will do 5/8ths of fuck all if they are a legitimate charity. I didn't read the full story but can hardly see grounds to deregister them if they comply with the requirement in the first place. Tell me I'm wrong (please) but from where I'm looking it's just pissing in the wind.

Also the poorly concieved footnote for the petition reeks of personal grievance. The 'embalishing facts' bit is well embalished. Hardly makes for a convincing argument from when you start by doing the very thing you are criticising.
If you believe they are in fact doing the country a diservice then by all means sign, but perhaps reading a bit about the group and making your own mind up rather than making a decision based on a badly written, oversimplified blurb posted by god only knows who, with undisclosed (im guessing none) credentials.

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

I am getting g grief from a mate about signing as hevsays they do a lot of good..blah blah blah. I have tried to point out the main issue of expenditure etc, but it falls on deaf ears.

http://safe.org.nz/sites/default/files/animal-activist-handbook.pdf Looking at their animal activism handbook. They are no friends of people who hunt, fish, eat meat, ride horses or wear wool. Next time someone gets shot in a hunting accident, take a look at their Facebook page for the comments from their supporters like good job, serves you right and karma being a bitch. These people are not your friend and they would shut down hunting if they had the chance.

ISIS isn't the nicest bunch too but I doubt a 1000 strong petition will shut them down either.

Good luck, but I'm not holding my breath. I did look at the Charities Commission site and Im surprised they were given charitable status in the first place though as they are very fringe.

Very true James. However there are other ways to interact with ISIS that do not involve words. I also am not sure if the instigator of the petition will manage to convince the IRD to look to see if they have strayed outside the definition a charity. However if he did and they were found wanting and lost charity status and its associated tax benefits and funding eligibility, I would have no sympathy for them.

Oh I have no doubt about this and hence do not support them in any way. I just dont think you should make up your mind based on a random petition on the internet. Do some research and reading on your own steam and make your own mind up.
With the new rules around increased reporting, if there are financial issues they will be found out and dealt with accordingly.

If you want to talk tax exempt crooks, look no further than Mr Brian Tamaki, his tax exempt status is a farking joke.

Made my mind up about SAFE a long time ago.

    This article was the decider.
