Look mate, this question has come up a lot and generally ends in a shit fight. Basically any breed that has been mentioned already will do the job fine, its all down to how you train it. Go for what you like, I'm going a Brittany because I like them and not because I think they are better than any other breed. Just do your research on characteristics and temperament and go with the one that you think suits you best, put in the hours and train hard and you'll have a best mate who work for you regardless of breed

I used a Weimaraner bitch, but it comes down to personal choice and what you like.
Short coated dogs and bitches are cleaner but can suffer from cold theyneed a jacket of some sort when it is cold.
Suggest if you are keen get a deer dog sooner rather than later as they are really good when sorted.
Get one when young and fit and you have the time to put in to it.
Stick to deer and if using on birds only use it to point as you only really need them to find game.
    Cheers erniec

I agree with what others have said, do your research and then put in the hours training.

Hope to see your hunting adventures with your new mate in time to come
