I'm no farmer but I like a good plan. I get the snobbery of the dedicated hardcore Alpine hunters, you know, the "proper" hunters. From time-to-time there's been shitty comments made about us "farm hunters". But sometimes needs must and the situation calls for minimizing effort through application of brains.

After numerous observations of target species behaviour in a specific location, a plan was indeed made and gravity was utilised. Wait until deer are above track... and shoot! [Gravity happens] Ta da!

Job complete, on time, no incidents.

A plan that worked well done

Hunting, What Hunting,
A series of unfortunate events. The wettest Summer I can remember and would like to forget was followed by a reasonable Autumn but June has been wet with another 180 mm over 10 days. We lost power on Friday night due to water or damp in the cabinet with our main switch main switch in. We got it back on yesterday afternoon (thanks to the Troubleman and Sparky) so this morning I squelched my way around the paddocks to make sure everything was working and the cows had ignored the fact that the electric fences were of . They had.
What passes for hunting in my case is a rapidly fading memory and using my range to get some rifles sorted for target shooting in the Spring is unlikely for some weeks. A trip to the Taupo Range to do some testing will be needed.

I wonder how much of the farm hunting bashing comes from jealousy? Both farm and public land hunting have their places and I enjoy both equally. Getting out into a new part of public land is great, but so is a farm hunt where you don't have as much pressure to get on to something

About hunting on private land. This is why we need to keep on top of deer, private mainly but some public. Shot this little rat last night. Way too many.

I think Farm hunting vs Bush Hunting comes down to the difference in challenge and difficulty.
I don't have access to a farm to hunt but if I did, I still think I'd prefer the challenge of public land.

mate...If I had access to farmland I would the there right now and my freezer plus all my mates freezers plus church food banks freezer would be full...IM getting thoroughly sick of getting skunked on public land.another dry run today.

Is it A Sika ? Photo makes it difficult to be certain.

Also agree. We need to keep deer numbers in check. Sensible levels I mean.

Its a Fallow. A yearling. Easily pick it up by one hand. Big un-controlled population and not much feed.

Thanks. Yep, I've shot farmland Fallow like that from high populations on scant feed. Usually need to shoot two to get enough venison. I've found backsteaks are very thin on these underfed animals but it tastes the same. But, would rather shoot a bigger, healthier, fatter animal for a decent load of meat.
