Thread: Mole hut / matiri lake hut

At this time of the year fly camping would be fine. Plenty of places to hide away from wind. Quite a neat place. The faces above bull creek and the d'Urville river can be quite productive from time to time, often over looked by those seeking the valleys that drain into the Matakitaki. Haven't been into Matiri for years, was a busy place with trampers. Beautiful valley though.

Only managed to make it on top of the ridge before dark on Saturday night, made for avery interesting walk in due to the low cloud with the equally low snow polls.as I decided to go to the hut as there were no other cars at the road. Made it to the hut at 9pm, luckily it was empty. The low cloud ruined my plans so decided to try climb above it. Gladi did this as once on the top it was brilliant. Deffently worth the sore legs even though I returned empty handed.
