Hope to get a solid roar with some not too coy stags. April is my leave month. Everyone At work knows that

Well, one got me all excited last weekend until I triangulated the stags position about 100m behind a deer fence bordering DOC land

I predict there will be an absolute shit ton of 2-3 year olds going hard that would have usually died last year being the youngest and dumbest. As for time got a video from a mate of one roaring yesterday somewhere in the country.

Never hunted Clements. Try heading a wee bit further south and getting onto the Tops from the SH1 side

We just got back from a week long trip down there, didn’t hear a single roar, seen a tonne of hinds but we were a bit unlucky, Seen one 2-3yo with a stuffed front leg so took him for the freezer.

The adult hinds have their first estrus cycle around 20 March coinciding with photo period and that is when a lot of old stags do their rooting. At the next cycle three weeks later all the young stags are feeling their oats and thats when there is lots of noise

This years roar will likely go early throughout central north island. I think Easter will see the bulk of the action given the dates and moon and the tea leaves. I think late March will go hard. As above be a few youngins about!

Reds generally mid march early April, Sika usually 2-3 weeks behind. Have heard Sika hee-haw and red moan in CNI already.

I reckon level 4 lock down will be almost certain in a few weeks. It's all part of a long term management plan to improve trophy quality.
