Bet you're tempted to shoot it if there's not much going on with the deer

I thought we had two species of wallaby in NZ, the article says five.

MPI website says 5 species were introduced, but 2 species have become a pest problem.

there is/were dark fluffy ones on an offshore island... the little fellas around rotorua and our big huas down here. not sure where the other two lots are.
same old story...rabbits and canada geese are the same....dont want to pay for professional control and it just gets worse, any property that isnt actively controlling just becomes a nursery for surrounding farms.... there are a lot of properties who will not let anyone on to hunt.

Yeah, getting access is a problem. Understandable though if I was a cocky I wouldn't want random's shooting round my stock at night.

you dont have to hunt at night...we shoot a hell of a lot during daylight hour...with dogs its great sport with shotgun .

there were several other species on Kawau Island only - not sure what remains there - I believe released by Governor George Grey who had quite a zoo out there but dont quote me on this -just had mates up there doing control- was told some of the species on Kawau are rare in their native homeland of Skippy land

Same solution as possums then....Send em back on a return 501 type arrangment - deport them back to Aussie....See how they like that...Probably want them in quaranteen for a bit..maybe we should do that at our end with the 501s too

Aussies like possums and protect them, they'd be grateful to have them back. Can't say I feel the same about returning 501s.

30ish years ago Freddy Angel (the lizard/bird smuggler) had fellas capturing wallabies up in the hunterhills and was exporting them back to Australia .
the giant canadian geese we have here are also very low in numbers in the homeland they came from..
Tahr ..well dont need to say more about them.
