I don’t understand why bullups are not a common design. Instead we chop our barrels off and load our rounds way too hot to compensate.

Any advancement on a projectiles bc will be a winner. Look at Hornadys success of late. Longer slimmer heavier projectiles 👍

'Cause they're horrible to look at. (personal opinion)

Shot one for 20 years in the NZDF. Didn't like them.

Just wrap it in carbon and only photograph it with a black background and moody lighting…problem solved

I was hoping that someone would come up with plans for a pulse energy rifle, but instead we are going back in time. Wish I had one of these when I was a young fella : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y41dwLSjlwE

I think that hunting rifles will not be a problem in the future, hunters are an endangered species. As future generations continue like this, the lovers of hunting will disappear.
There is still gunpowder left, the Grim Reaper can wait.

How far into the future are talking?

A few random thoughts, pure speculation.

We already have rifles making use of carbon fibre and polymer then theres chassis guns like "The Fix" and "Cross". I would expect to see more firearms like that, incremental improvement on existing designs. Theres a bunch of shotguns with dual tube magazines. How feasible is it to do that with a lever action?
In terms of practicality for hunting its tough to beat the bolt action rifle. Ammunition is another question though, its going to be interesting to see how .277 fury works out, mind you we are still using calibres from the late 1800's.

Theres also the possibility that military grade weapons like belt feds, assault rifles etc become non regulated as they become antiques and police/ military adopt much more powerful weapons. Obviously thats quite a ways off.

As military small arms evolve beyond gun powder I cant see governments letting their citizens keep up with that technology. I think we will be limited to gun powder for a long time.

One thing I expect to see is an explosion in the use of home produced firearms and eventually ammo. The 3D printer has the potential to change the way we do a lot of things.

What about one of these? Not a firearm and they will only get more powerful as batteries improve.

It seems that a firearm projecting an EMP at a deer is not possible, but I wonder if it is possible instead to have a projectile that can generate it's own pulse through rotation of the outer section around a central core whilst in flight or alternately a projectile that is a super capacitor, delivering a stun discharge to the target

It’s hardly sport now and the expertise required is disappearing rapidly. I figure a drone with a red button and lock on a petite missile?

Hopefully "hunting" is still a thing in the future. That would be more my concern at the rate things are going.
