Alot of the Marlin 22LR/17HMR/22WMR rimfires are accurate for sporters - you will however get the occasional dud like any make. 17HMR has same case of course as 22 Magnum. 17 has alot smaller pill (17-20gr), faster, flatter trajectory, longer range. 22WMR heavier pill (30-50gr), hits harder out to 125m or so, more penetration. Magnum better if you chance on a close up goat/wallaby, but both rounds quite wind affected which can seriously reduce distance. Gave a 22 magnum a thorough field testing last 2 years but in our frequent 30-50k breezes the 223 is much better option.
I'd be careful with 22Magnum semiautos. Read some Savageowner forum material - and rimfirecentral. They do present problems esp the Savage A22. Like the Brazilian Rossi you may get a good one, but there real quality variations.
