About LinkBacksGiant noisy cartridges don't count. Yes you can shoot anything with them. I can shoot rabbits with my 7mm RM for $2.50/round. Shot hundreds of rabbits with 6.5x47L reloads at $2.40/rnd. .223 has cheap boxes of 50 for $1/rnd last time I looked. Much more affordable for bunny shooting and I have seen neck shot deer dropped with a 40gr V-max.
.243 etc is too big and too expensive to be an all rounder, by comparison. You can shoot rabbits with any large chambering.
I miss my AR terribly now, but my new Sauer 100 is a very nice rifle. Very nice to have a .223 back in the safe.
