    338 looking..

So getting keen on some longer range steel banging.
I was thinking about a 375 cheytac, but wont really have a easy area to shoot it for playing etc, as the new range is going to be limited, but 338 lapua fits in, so now have reverted to being keen on this.
Thoughts so far are, not really going to be a carry rifle, dont like wood stocks etc., do like xlr and mdt chassis(have both and really like fit etc... And will prob buy to new ones to fit actin etc), would like magazine feed but not critical.
Excepting scope (total different question!) what action and barrell do people like?

Not talking hunting as a primary purpose, ie target projectiles, shooting well are more important - but if a good cross fit is found, all the better.

XLR, TF UM 1-9, Barnard PL or Stiller or Defiance, or Remington,

Wouldn't bother with mag feed, (too restricting with 300s), would bother with 338 Imp, (more grunt)

Use a brake not a suppressor if you want to shoot 300s & a few of them at a time.

I have a big 340 Terminator available 300s at 3100fps, XLR, PL, big Lilja 1-10, all black.

Even the "7mm King of the Mountain" uses a 338 now

I understand the appeal but having been there numerous times it very, very, VERY rarely works out as well as a factory gun.

Not to mention the financial hiding you take every single time without fail.

If you want a "fun don't break the bank gun" go 338, ( Lapua, Edge etc ) great to shoot out to 1500 plus and cheap to run ( less than 2bucks a round, ex brass ), but if you want to spend $10- 15+ a round on some fancy 7mm or odd ball wank tool & can afford it, go ahead

    PS- I'll buy a 375 one day, cause they're cool & I'm a wank knob
Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!

Phil , you have a way with words .
You have a wide range of factory guns in 338LM , most will do the job well , you just need to narrow the choice by price & feature set .
The more expensive have more features , you need to look at what features are important to YOU .
If going brand new , the AI AXMC is very good & I would reccomend the AX over the older AWSM in 338LM , the AX action is much bigger than than the AWSM action , uses a bigger dia barrel thread in and a bigger dia bolt head as well , also a very nice & smooth 10rd double feed , double stack mag , just like a scaled UP AW magazine , only 1 downside to the Accuracy International AXs , weight , a rifle of this spec is never going to be cheap however .
Cheaper than the AX which is at the very top , is the Sako TRG series , then rifles like the Savage which is fanastic bang for your buck .

    Later Chris

If it's just for fun then do it (.338). If it's for hunting, its likely to end up to heavy and cumbersome...

Not always heavy & cumbersome with smart barrel length & component choices
