Here's an old farts opinion. A 140 grn 6.5 caliber bullet with a minimum MV of about 2,600 fps or over will kill any deer out to 300 yards at least. Regardless of the head stamp. If its stamped "Creedmoor" or whatever who cares.

.....something about arseholes......& opinions..... Just go hunting - but remember to carry "enough gun" for your intended purpose.

It would be a bloody horrible night spent in camp with some of you if this is all you can talk about

A greater fear would be if it turned to politics.

    Yep... like I said..

Projectile - speed - purpose - preferences to suit purpose.. paraphrased....

well I consider myself NEARLY an old fart
I agree with above statement with one small change....A 140grn projectile with minimun MV of about 2,600 blah blah blah the size of the shaft/hole/shank isnt going to matter much unless taken to really extreme ends of spectrum......243=6mm 264=6.5mm .277=7mm .284 =7mmand a bit .308=7.62mm etc etc

Good luck running a 6mm 140grn projectile. Talk about a pencil.

I didnt add .323=8mm on the other end as thats getting silly short for same reason...AND sorry @amlnz I also neglected to add .257=6.25ish LOL
my point being that within reason.(between 6.25----7.62mm).ANY cartridge poking a 140 grn pill at 2600fps is going to make stuff die

Several large sambar stags over the last couple years hate my creed. All bar one only took a few steps and the one exception was entirely my fault. Excellent all round cartridge, my top choice for all big game New Zealand hunting. There is no substitute for shot placement with any caliber though.

my thoughts are that under 300m it literally doesn't matter.
past 300m I prefer 6.5 as I like the ballistics more, but if I spent time with .308 I'm sure I'd get used to it and be fine. I also have a stuffed shoulder that pinches the nerves and the creedmore with a muzzle brake means I can still feel my fingers after a day at the range.

a lot of the arguments here feel like the arguments betwen samsung and apple, ford and holden crap. they're so close together that there will never be a obvious best choice so just get what you like and don't be a goddamn weirdo online about it.

sorry mate, that was a generic comment about the online discussion around it, not you specifically.

God knows i spent so much damn time researching calibres before i bought my first hunting rifle that was wasted in restrospect.
