Advice needed for purchasing new 308 rifle

    Hey all.

Was wondering if you fine folk could point me in the right direction.

I'm after a 308 rifle that's basically a do it all kind of gun.

I mostly do range shooting and once in a blue moon go outdoors to try get some deer. Failing that, bombing up goats.

Been looking around and saw a Ruger Magpul Hunter in 308 with an 18 inch barrel and muzzle brake, but figured I'd just slap a suppressor on there. The looks of the rifle too were quite pleasing.

Are there any other rifles I should consider because from a price point, I really can't go past the Ruger at the mo.

    Cheers all

    Dave

yes..go and buy WALDO PEENS HOWA in the buy sell section...you probably wont find one at better price, and as its practically brand new still, you getting a bargain. the 1500s are good solid reliable rifles and mine shoots very well straight from box....

If i were to do it again, id do the exact same thing, buy a tikka, cut it to 18" suppress it, vertical pistol grip( or find a carbon stock you like) talley lightweight rings and a vx5hd. I did it with 7mm08 and love it, 162 amax at 2530 is the business, if your into 308, 168 eldm will be hella good medicine for anything. If you want a harder projectile, 178eldx. Jobs good

Bergara Extreme Hunter. All the ones I have seen shoot, shoot bloody well from the get go. may be outside your budget tho cost is about the same as a Std Tikka.

The Thompson bolt action magazine rifles are tack drivers and incorporate floating bolt head and adjustable trigger and very good value if you can find one.

I am a bit of a scout rifle nut so I might be a little biased but check this out.

I have the synthetic stock version with the 16in barrel, Ive used it on deer, goats and in several IPSC rifle matches. I think it'll work well for what you are planning.
You can remove the rail and mount a conventional scope if you dont fancy a scout scope.

Heres some info on the concept.
