BSA CF2 ?? Brought it !!! Pic heavy

Firstly I need to blame several people on this bloody forum for this purchase, @ Sarvo for posting his BSA Hunters up, @ Gundoc for saying how nice they are and to every one else including myself for hitting the like button.
The whole thing sort of stirred some deep dark emotion that yes I like wood and steel as well and it's my older rifles I enjoy carrying the most.
So this was sitting at a local sports shop, I had been in and looked at it about 30 times under the guise of doing or getting something else, bit like that stunning big breasted stripper you fall in lust for, only way you are going to get your grubby little mitts on it is by paying some money.
So I have got it, it's a CF2 I think but don't really know. Wood wok is pretty good, 19 inch gunworks stainless barrel, quiet heavy profile but not bull barrel. Uncomfortable as hell with the big comb for a lefty.
Bolt very smooth and heavy as hell. What looks like a factory mag which I had never seen before, not that I know anything about them. Chambered in the mighty 222
I have a right to return if it shoots like crap and I think I have tracked down the old / original owner so may have some history to add.
Going to be my winter project, strip sock, strip re - paint metal floor / mag plate and if it shoots get it suppressed.
Not really a beauty queen like Sarvo's or Gundoc's but more the big titted stripper...........more my style and taste. Three decent photos up for the BSA purest's , enjoy.Name: BSA 1.JPG

Don't know if thats a CF2. Could be wrong but I reackon its earlier than that. I did own a CF2 in the late 70's and I don't remember it having a detachable mag. I do remember it being bloody heavy. Google the serial number and there might be some clues.

    Yep that's definitely a cf2.
Nice to see you join the club @viper you can stop and respray the trigger guard.
Also I'd ditch that bloody awful stock and buy some walnut and get rid of that awful comb.

Never seen a cf2 with a drop out mag. Rest of the gun looks like a cf2 though

@ Sideshow, awesome looking stock mate, amazing grain, be more than I paid for the rifle.
@ Northdude, cheers I am looking forward to the 222, a bit legendary in NZ and bench rest circles I hear.
@ Mick Hunter , yeah a bit different which is nice.

The last owner rang me today, it was a Deer Culler's rifle originally, I don't know who as he got it second hand off TM 6-7 yrs ago. The barrel was flogged out so he put the stainless barrel on it. Robbie Tiffen did the work and the new barrel has only had 3-4 boxes through it. He traded it in on larger calibre for Thar and longer shots.
Apparently accurate with him head shooting Goats at 100 mtrs plus, guess we shall see in the up coming weekends when time and weather allow.
The checkering shows a little wear from carrying but still good, small scraps and dings but nothing bad, the thing I noticed is the BSA rubber butt pad still has all ( 90% ) of the dimples in it, so isn't makes me wonder that it's being well looked after.

Thanks for the blame! CF2's are good solid rifles although I have never seen that magazine set-up before. The stock is a pain for a southpaw and it would be a shame to alter it. Tarting up the checkering is no biggie. You may be able to find an un-inletted semi-finished LH stock that could be easily made to suit. Boyds used to have them.

good on ya Viper...just remember the trebly made its mark with 50 grn pills and you wont go far wrong...hint hint the ones in a yellow plastic box work awesome at speeds you be getting.

The mag looks very much like a stock standard Tikka LSA55 5 shot mag, single stack, easily adapted to an action like the CF2.

I don't know, the floor plate is all one piece, has a proper small mag release button, really snug with no rattle, noise or movement. I wondered if if was an extra you could order and retro fit ?
Single stack, the top off the plate that you push the rounds into to feed the mag is stamped .222 Rem

Bos I bought 270 CF2 in 1976. Heavy is an understatement. No detachable mag though. It could slay deer but got sick of the weight. Believe NZ Rail are buying up all the old ones to use as sleepers on the upgrade on the Napier / Gisborne rail link. Viper it looks a lot nicer than my old 270. The mag looks slick. Enjoy it.

Just put it on his weapon carrier (quad/ute) and not a problem. Seriously though, they balance well and the action feels nice but it is a full-size action without any lightening cuts.
A good shot at close range beats a 'hit" at a longer range.

Hey @viper I've had a dig around on the web can't find one like yours!
Can you take the trigger guard of and show us a few pics of that mag assembly.
    Cheers
